This Preschool Travel Game is more than just easy and fun – it’s educational, too. Before you take your next car ride, grab a healthy dose of silliness and let the travel fun begin! *Helpful hint: This is also a great spur-of-the-moment game to keep preschoolers occupied when you have to stand in line.

Nothing but your imagination!

How to Play

1. The next time you travel with your preschooler, whether it’s down the road or to the next state, pass the time by making up stories. It’s best if a grown-up starts so the preschoolers know what’s coming, at least until Storyteller’s Car Ride becomes a well-known game.

2. Begin your story with three sentences. For example: Once upon a time, there lived a frog who wore purple lipstick. Purple lipstick got all over everything, including the piano! This frog’s name was…

3. The person sitting on the right picks up where the first person left off, and finishes with three more sentences. Try to include everyone sitting in the car. The third sentence should always give the next person a lead-in (like “this frog’s name was…” or “He wore purple lipstick because…”)

4. The three sentence rule helps preschoolers develop a sense of complete sentences. Many preschoolers speak in run-on sentences and sentence fragments, so you may need to help them with the three sentence structure for a little while. It won’t be long before your preschooler will understand the basic structure of a sentence and will soon enjoy the benefits of good communication skills!
