Cornucopia Trivia Preschool Game

Buy at Art.comBy Charlene Haukom

Teach preschoolers all about cornucopias with this fun preschool trivia game! The cornucopia is also known as the Horn of Plenty – in this case, plenty of fun!

What You Will Need

Felt squares – Brown, Yellow, Red, Green, Orange
Trivia cards (instructions below)

How to Play

1. Draw a large, curved horn shape on the brown felt square to represent the cornucopia basket. Cut it out.

2. To keep things easy, cut circles out of the other colors. The circles must be smaller than the cornucopia basket. Make things more interesting by adding other shapes, like squares and triangles.  If you have the time, you can trace the shapes of fruits and vegetables on the colored felt squares and cut them out.

3. Make up your trivia cards. On heavy paper like cardstock, print from your computer or write the following trivia questions – 1 question per card: (answers are in bold type - don't bold the text on your trivia cards)

    I. What is another name for a cornucopia?
        a. Fruit and vegetable basket
        b. Horn of Plenty
        c. Thanksgiving basket

II. How many varieties of apples exist?
        a. More than 7,000
        b. More than 1,000
        c. More than 300

III. What state produces the most corn?
          a. Michigan
          b. Illinois
          c. Iowa

IV. In which food group do pumpkins belong?
          a. Fruit
          b. Grains
          c. Vegetables

4. Give each preschooler a felt cornucopia basket. Ask one of the trivia questions and have all preschoolers give their answers. Preschoolers that answer correctly may put a felt circle in the cornucopia basket.

5. The first preschooler with 3 shapes in their cornucopia basket wins the game!

Variations of the Cornucopia Trivia Preschool Game board

Instead of using felt, try stamping or drawing the cornucopia basket and fillings. Use a heavyweight paper so the pieces will last longer. Or, find pictures of the items in a magazine and cut them out. Either way, laminate your creations so they'll last longer. You may want to laminate the trivia cards, too.

Short on time? Keep this preschool game simple and play in a pinch. Just use colored paper – one full sheet to represent the basket and smaller pieces for the filling. Skip the trivia cards and just ask questions. Anything you come up with will do!
