Color Wheel Preschool Parachute Game

By Charlene Haukom

The Color Wheel Preschool Parachute Game teaches preschool colors while also increasing coordination! Preschoolers will have fun trying to toss bean bags into the “hot” color – but watch out for the preschoolers holding the parachute! They just might bat the bean bags away!

What You Will Need

Multi-colored parachute
Bean Bags

How to Play

1. Spread out a colorful parachute. Have a group of preschoolers hold the edges at waist level.

2. Designate a “hot” color. This will be the color preschoolers aim for.

3. Give one preschooler (not holding onto the parachute) three bean bags.

4. The preschoolers holding the parachute begin walking, clockwise.

5. The preschooler with the bean bags tries to toss them into the “hot” color while the other preschoolers are walking. Have the preschoolers holding the parachute change direction between each toss.

6. If the preschooler tossing the bean bags doesn’t make it into the “hot” color before running out of bags, then s/he is out. The preschooler would simply hold the parachute until a new game starts. The preschooler is also out if the bean bag touches one of the preschoolers holding the parachute.

7. If the preschooler does make it into the “hot” color, then s/he gets another turn to toss after everyone else has had a chance to try.

Variations of the Color Wheel Preschool Parachute Game

Instead of designating a “hot” color to aim for, use color coded bean bags to determine where to toss. Then follow the steps above.

Make the Color Wheel Preschool Parachute Game More Challenging

Make this preschool parachute game more challenging by limiting the number of bean bags. Instead of giving preschoolers three chances to hit the “hot” color, give them only two chances.

You can also make this parachute game more challenging by allowing the parachute-holding preschoolers to bat the tossed bean bags away. Reserve this step for older preschoolers, and have them follow the standard rules until they are comfortable with the game.
